How To Make A Monkey Old Fashioned

Introducing The Monkey Old Fashioned: A Twist On A Classic

The ‘Old Fashioned', an uncomplicated and timeless cocktail that is not only simple to replicate but also easily adapted to suit anyone’s taste. As its name suggests, it is a classic cocktail that has been around since the mid-1800s and was traditionally concocted using whisky. Let our Asia-Pacific Monkey 47 Brand Ambassador, Zac Degit show you the tricks on how to make this iconic drink using the Barrel Cut Dry Gin instead.

The Barrel Cut is the latest addition to the Monkey 47 family of handcrafted gins and has been carefully aged in premium Mulberry casks. The Mulberry wood adds an elegant sweetness to the gin while giving it a slight woody taste that is reminiscent of fine whisky. This cocktail is the perfect marriage of bitter, citrus and sweet flavours; a drink for any occasion.

  • 50ml Monkey 47 Barrel Cut
  • 2 dashes angostura bitters
  • 1 dash orange bitters
  • 10ml sugar syrup
  • 1 orange (orange peels)

Pour 50ml Monkey 47 Barrel Cut into a mixing glass. Then add in 2 dashes Angostura bitters followed by 1 dash orange bitters. Next, add in 10ml sugar syrup.

Fill mixing glass with ice and give it a good, long stir.

Strain over fresh ice in a rocks glass. Squeeze the essential oils of the orange peels over the drink. Fill your shaker with ice and give the mixture a stir. Then strain the mixture into a serving glass (double strain for a smoother concoction).

Lastly, garnish with orange zest.
