Whisky Live Singapore is South-East Asia’s premier whisky and spirits event. Organized by La Maison du Whisky, this event gathers over 70 whisky and spirit brands for tasting, with rising stars of the whisky industry as well as some of the world’s most famous distilleries.
Monkey 47 was one of the spirit brands being exhibited at the event. Botanically complex and combining a great story with great design work to create a formidable package, Monkey 47 has now been established as a cult favourite among gin lovers.
Meet the guardian of the Monkey 47 haven, Sir Safari! From the outside, the Monkey 47 tent looked mysterious: subtle and blending into the surroundings. The whole set-up created a sense of intrigue and bewilderment; luring innocent onlookers into its wonder. Now, before guests were granted access, you had to get past Sir Safari and his unforgiving questions. But fortunately, Mr Safari had a great sense of humour and that helped ease the questioning process for sure.
Once guests passed his test, they will get to pick a ball. Don’t be fooled by its harmless appearance, this little white ping pong ball holds a lot more power than you think...
Once guests enter the mysterious tent, they were greeted by plants of all kinds and a team of jungle warriors all clad in green. Yup, and that’s Rhyse, our cocktail connoisseur featured in many of our other articles such as How To Make A Canchanchara. Besides being caretakers of this jungle experience, these jungle warriors are also cocktail experts!
Now that the guest has the most important thing in his/her hands, the next thing to do is to roll the ball down the chute. This chute leads the ball downwards into the mouth of one of the three monkeys representing Monkey 47.
Each monkey was tagged to a cocktail mixer. Each cocktail mixer is different and made with different ingredients; providing guests a variety of flavours.
These three monkeys were named after famous monkeys, which are also the names of Monkey 47’s distilleries.
The first monkey is named Miss Baker; she was the first monkey that was launched into space. If you picked her, your mixer would be made of sage and orange that gives a sweet and citrus flavour.
The second was Cheetah Monkey: the famous monkey that starred in Tarzan films back in the 1930s. Cheetah Monkey’s mixer was a perfect marriage of ginger and cardamom. For those who like their cocktails herby and spicy, this was the monkey to bet on.
Lastly, the third monkey was none other than King Louie, the well-loved character from Disney’s Jungle Book. Just like King Louie’s character in the famous classic, this mixer was made of berries and mint: a fun, light and refreshing mix!
As seen above, one of our lucky guests has gotten her mixer jar! The next thing to do was to pour the Money 47 gin into her mixer.
Now, shake it off, shake it off! Guests were shaking their cocktail jars away, making sure that their little jars of happiness were evenly mixed.
Now that guests had their little jars of happiness in hand, they had one last task to complete. Drop the ball into the spinning wheel and the jungle spirits will pick a garnish for them!
Voila! There you go! Grapes or watermelon balls? We’ll leave that to fate.
For those who preferred the fizz, they were in for a treat! Walk past the busy crowd to the end of the tent and you would have spotted two slushie machines; churning tirelessly to create the thirst-quenching beverage that everyone was eagerly waiting for.
After journeying through the jungle, guests were rewarded with their completed cocktails and the beautiful skyline of Singapore as a backdrop.
All in all, the Monkey 47 booth was engaging, lively and full of energy. Cheers to the Monkey 47 team!
